You may see one of these error codes while setting up your TCL Roku TV or during normal streaming. Use the matching section below to get back online.
Note: Settings may vary by model and software.
Start here (quick checks that help most codes)
- Check if your internet is actually working on a phone/computer on the same network. (If nothing connects, it’s likely an ISP or router outage.)
- Restart your TCL Roku TV: Home > Settings > System > Power > System restart > Restart.
- Restart your modem/router (unplug power for ~30–60 seconds, plug back in, wait for it to fully reconnect).
- If you’re on Wi-Fi, move the TV (or router) closer and reduce obstacles (walls, cabinets).
Error Code 009
Meaning: Your TV can connect to the router, but there’s no internet access.
Try this:
- Confirm other devices can browse the internet on the same network. If they can’t, contact your ISP.
- If other devices do have internet, restart the TV (steps above).
- If it still happens, restart the router/modem and then try connecting again.
Common causes:
- Temporary ISP outage
- Router lost upstream connection
- Captive portal networks (hotel/dorm/public Wi-Fi) that require a web sign-in (see tip near the end)
Error Code 012 (Ethernet)
Meaning: Wired (Ethernet) connection issue.
Try this:
- Make sure the Ethernet cable is fully seated in the TV and router.
- Try a different Ethernet cable (or a different router port if available).
- Restart the TV and router/modem.
- If you have Wi-Fi available, temporarily switch to Wi-Fi to confirm internet service is working.
Error Code 013 (Ethernet)
Meaning: Another wired network error.
Try this:
- If other devices can connect to the internet, restart the TV.
- Unplug and reconnect the Ethernet cable at both ends.
- Restart the router before contacting your ISP.
Error Code 014
Meaning: The TV failed to connect to Wi-Fi (often network selection issues).
Try this:
- Double-check you selected the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
- Re-enter the password carefully (passwords are case-sensitive).
- Restart TV and router, then try connecting again.
Error Code 014.20 / 014.30 / 014.50 (Weak Wi-Fi signal)
Meaning: Wi-Fi signal is not strong enough to complete the connection.
(You may also see other “14.xx” weak-signal codes on some Roku software versions.)
Try this:
- Move the TV closer to the router, or move the router higher and more open (avoid cabinets).
- Restart both router and TV.
- If your router has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, try the other band:
- 2.4 GHz = longer range (often better through walls)
- 5 GHz = faster but shorter range
- If the TV previously connected but won’t now, do a Network Connection Reset (see “Advanced fix” below).
- If problems continue after improving signal, you may need a factory reset as a last step.
Error Code 014.40 / 014.41 (Password or router restrictions)
Meaning: Usually an incorrect Wi-Fi password or a router setting that blocks the TV.
Try this:
- Confirm you selected the correct network name (SSID).
- Re-enter the password carefully (case-sensitive).
- Check router settings such as MAC Address Filtering / Access Control. If enabled, add the TV’s Wireless MAC Address to the allowed list.
Error Code 016
Meaning: You tried to launch a channel/app, but the TV lost the network or internet connection.
Try this:
- Select Set up connection on-screen and reconnect.
- Restart the TV and router.
- If it happens repeatedly, check Wi-Fi signal strength and consider the “Advanced fix” below.
Error Code 017
Meaning: The TV detects a poor/weak wireless signal.
Try this:
- Improve placement of the TV/router and reduce obstacles.
- Restart the TV and router.
- If possible, use Ethernet for the most stable connection (models with LAN port).
Error Code 018
Meaning: Internet bandwidth is too low for reliable streaming.
Try this:
- Pause downloads/streams on other devices to reduce congestion.
- Restart modem/router and try again.
- If you consistently see this, check your subscribed internet speed with your ISP and consider upgrading if needed.
Advanced fix (helps stubborn Wi-Fi problems without a full factory reset)
If your TV used to connect fine but now won’t, try a Network Connection Reset:
Home > Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Network connection reset > Reset connection
Then reconnect to Wi-Fi again.
Find your Wireless MAC Address (for MAC filtering)
- Press Home
- Go to Settings
- Go to Network
- Select About
Your MAC address is listed next to Wireless MAC address.
Tip for hotel/dorm/public Wi-Fi
If your network requires a web login page, standard setup may fail. Roku has a “Hotel and Dorm Connect” option after activation for these networks (workarounds may apply if the TV has never been activated).
