How to Scan for Antenna or Cable Channels on Your TCL Google TV
A channel scan allows your TCL Google TV to search for available over-the-air antenna channels or cable channels. Before starting, make sure your antenna or cable connection is properly connected to the TV.
Settings and menu names may vary slightly by TCL Google TV model and software version.
Before You Start
Before running a channel scan:
-
Make sure your external antenna or cable line is firmly connected to the coaxial port on the back of the TV.
This port may be labeled CABLE/ANT. - If you are using an antenna, place it near a window or in an open area when possible. This can help improve signal reception.
- Make sure the TV is powered on and you are using the TCL Google TV remote.
Start the Channel Scan
- Press the Settings button on your TCL Google TV remote.
Go to:
Settings > Channel & Input > Channels > Channel Scan
- The Channel Scan settings screen will appear.
Select your country from the list.
Note: If you need to change the country later, the TV may ask for a password. The default password is usually 1234, unless it was previously changed.
Choose the Scan Type
You will see channel scan options. Select the option that best fits how you want to scan.
Scan Automatically
- Select Scan Automatically to let the TV search for available channels on its own.
- This is the recommended option for most customers.
Manually Scan
- Select Manually Scan only if you know the specific channel or frequency you want to search for.
- Most customers should use Scan Automatically.
Select the Correct Tuner Mode
Next, choose the tuner mode based on what is connected to the TV.
If You Are Using an Antenna
Select:
- Tuner Mode: Antenna
- Channel Type: Digital & Analog
Use this option if you connected an indoor or outdoor antenna to the TV.
If You Are Using Cable
Select:
- Tuner Mode: Cable
- Channel Type: Digital & Analog
Use this option if you connected a cable line directly to the TV’s coaxial port.
Run the Channel Scan
- After selecting the correct tuner mode and channel type, start the scan.
- The TV will begin searching for available channels.
-
A progress bar will appear showing:
- Scan completion percentage
- Number of channels found
- Wait for the scan to reach 100%.
Do not turn off the TV or disconnect the antenna/cable while the scan is running.
Finish the Scan
- Once the scan reaches 100%, select Finish.
- The TV will open antenna or cable TV mode.
- Use the remote to scroll through and view the available channels.
If No Channels Are Found
If the scan finishes but no channels are found, try the following:
- Check that the antenna or cable line is securely connected to the TV.
-
Make sure the correct tuner mode was selected:
- Use Antenna for an external antenna.
- Use Cable for a direct cable connection.
- If using an antenna, move it to a different location, such as closer to a window.
- Run the channel scan again.
- If possible, test with another antenna or cable line to confirm the signal source is working.
Important Notes
- Channel availability depends on your location, antenna placement, signal strength, and local broadcast coverage.
- Some channels may not appear if the signal is weak.
- If channels are missing, reposition the antenna and run the scan again.
- If you are using a cable or satellite box connected by HDMI, you do not need to run a channel scan. Instead, change the TV input to the HDMI port connected to the cable or satellite box.
