How to Perform a Factory Reset on an Android TV

A factory reset returns your TCL Android TV to its original settings. Use it only after restarting the TV, checking for updates, and completing troubleshooting for the specific issue.

Before You Begin

A factory reset permanently removes:

  • Downloaded apps
  • Google accounts
  • Wi-Fi information
  • App logins
  • Picture and sound settings
  • Parental controls and customized preferences

Have your Wi-Fi password, Google account information, and streaming-service logins ready before continuing.

Important: Do not unplug or turn off the TV while the reset is in progress.

Reset the TV from the Settings Menu

Menu names may vary slightly by model and software version.

  • Press Home on the remote.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select More Settings, if shown.
  • Select Device Preferences.
  • Select Reset.
  • Select Factory data reset.
  • Review the warning and select Factory data reset again.
  • Select Erase everything to begin.

Why these steps are needed: The additional confirmation screens help prevent the TV from being erased accidentally.

The TV will restart and display the initial setup screen when the reset is complete.

If You Cannot Open the Settings Menu

First try a power reset:

  • Unplug the TV for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and try opening Settings again.
  • If the TV is frozen, stuck on a startup screen, or cannot display its menus, the recovery procedure may vary by model. Do not use a reset-button combination intended for a different TCL model.
  • Locate the model number on the label on the back of the TV, then search TCL Support for that model’s recovery instructions or contact TCL Support.

Why this step is needed: Using the correct model-specific recovery procedure helps prevent additional startup or software problems.

After the Factory Reset

Follow the on-screen setup instructions to:

  • Select the language and region.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Sign in to a Google account.
  • Reinstall apps.
  • Sign back in to streaming services.
  • Restore preferred picture, sound, and accessibility settings.

Conclusion

The factory reset is complete when the TV returns to the initial setup screen. If the TV cannot finish the reset or repeatedly returns to the same error screen, contact TCL Support with the model number and a description of what appears on the screen.
