How to Restore a TCL Fire TV That Is Frozen, Restarting, or Stuck on the Logo

If your TCL Fire TV is frozen, repeatedly restarting, or unable to move past the startup screen, follow the steps below.

Important: Menu names and available recovery options may vary by TCL Fire TV model and Fire OS version. Do not install a firmware file unless TCL Support provided it specifically for your exact TV model.

Step 1: Power-Cycle the TV

  • Unplug the TV directly from the electrical outlet.
  • Disconnect any HDMI devices, USB devices, soundbars, and other accessories from the TV.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the TV directly into a working wall outlet.
  • Turn the TV on and check whether it starts normally.

If the TV remains stuck on the logo or continues restarting, leave it unplugged for approximately five minutes and try again.

Step 2: Restart the Fire TV Through Settings

If you can access the Fire TV menus:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Device & Software.
    • On some older Fire TV models, select My Fire TV instead.
  • Select Restart.
  • Allow the TV to turn off and restart.

Restarting does not erase your apps, accounts, or settings.

Step 3: Check for a Software Update

If the TV starts successfully but continues to freeze or restart:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Device & Software or My Fire TV.
  • Select About.
  • Select Check for Updates.
  • Install any available update.

Keep the TV connected to a stable power source and internet connection while the update is being installed. Do not unplug the TV during an update.

Step 4: Factory Reset Through Settings

If restarting and updating do not resolve the issue, you can restore the TV to its factory settings.

Warning: A factory reset erases Amazon account information, Wi-Fi settings, installed apps, parental controls, and personalized TV settings.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Device & Software or My Fire TV.
  • Select Reset to Factory Defaults.
  • Review the warning and select Reset.
  • Wait for the TV to complete the reset and restart.

Do not unplug the TV while the reset is in progress.

Step 5: Factory Reset Using the Remote

Use this method only if the TV is on but you cannot access the Settings menu.

  • Press and hold the Back button and the Right side of the navigation ring at the same time.
  • Continue holding both buttons for approximately 10 seconds.
  • When the factory-reset message appears, follow the on-screen instructions.

If no selection is made, the TV may begin the factory reset automatically after the countdown finishes.

This button combination starts a factory reset. It does not open a recovery menu.

If the TV Still Will Not Start

If the TV remains stuck on the TCL or Fire TV logo, continues restarting, or does not respond to the remote:

  • Confirm that the TV is connected directly to a working wall outlet.
  • Leave all HDMI and USB devices disconnected while testing.
  • Try turning the TV on using its physical power button.
  • Do not use generic Android recovery button combinations or firmware files found online.
  • Contact TCL Support for instructions specific to your TV model.

Physical buttons and recovery procedures vary between TCL Fire TV models. Some models do not have volume buttons or a customer-accessible recovery menu.

After a Factory Reset

Once the reset is complete:

  • Select your language and region.
  • Connect the TV to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Sign in to your Amazon account.
  • Check for software updates.
  • Reinstall or sign back into your streaming apps.
  • Reconnect HDMI, USB, and audio devices one at a time.

Note: If reconnecting a particular device causes the problem to return, check that device and its cable before reconnecting it again.
