If you searched your TCL TV’s app store for Spectrum TV and can’t find it, it usually comes down to TV operating system compatibility. The Spectrum TV App is only available on certain TV platforms and streaming devices—so whether you can download it depends on what “type” of TCL TV you have.
The most common reason: your TCL TV platform isn’t supported
TCL TVs come with different smart TV systems (for example: Roku TV or Google TV). Spectrum only publishes the Spectrum TV App on select platforms.
Spectrum TV App is available on:
- TCL Roku TVs (Spectrum has a dedicated Roku channel/app)
- Apple TV
- Xbox
- Mobile devices (iOS/Android)
Spectrum TV App is often not available on:
TCL Google TV / Android TV models (in many cases, the app won’t appear in the Google Play Store on the TV because Spectrum doesn’t support that TV platform directly). Spectrum’s official “installing” page lists supported TV/device types, but does not list Google TV/Android TV as a supported smart TV platform.
How to tell which TCL TV you have
On your TCL TV:
- Press Home
- Go to Settings (or the gear icon)
- Look for About or System
- You’ll typically see Roku TV or Google TV listed
- This matters because the app store and available apps are different per platform.
What you can do instead (workarounds that usually work)
If the Spectrum TV App isn’t available on your TCL TV’s platform, you still have options:
Option 1: Use a supported streaming device
If you plug in a supported device, you can use Spectrum that way:
- Roku streaming players (Spectrum TV app/channel supported)
- Apple TV (supported)
Option 2: Cast from your phone/tablet to the TV
Spectrum supports the app on mobile devices and supports Chromecast casting on compatible setups (many TCL Google TVs support Chromecast built-in).
