How to Set Up a Matter-Enabled TCL Appliance in the TCL Home App
This article explains how to connect the following Matter-enabled TCL appliances to the TCL Home app:
- Matter AC
- Matter Window AC
- Matter Portable AC
- Matter Dehumidifier
Before starting, make sure you have:
- A smartphone or tablet
- Your 2.4 Wi-Fi name and password
- Access to the appliance and its remote, if included
- The Matter QR code or numeric setup code included with the appliance
Download the TCL Home App
- Open the App Store on an iPhone or iPad, or the Google Play Store on an Android device.
This ensures you download the official app from a trusted source. - Search for TCL Home, and then download and install the app.
The app is required to connect and control your TCL appliance. - Open the app and create a TCL account or sign in to an existing account.
Your account saves the appliance and its settings in the app.
Prepare Your Phone and Wi-Fi Network
- Connect your phone or tablet to the 2.4 Wi-Fi network you want the appliance to use.
The phone and appliance must use the same network during setup. - Stay near the appliance during pairing.
A strong nearby connection helps prevent setup interruptions. - Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or tablet.
Bluetooth may be used to discover the appliance during setup.
Add the Appliance
- Open the TCL Home app and tap + or Add Device.
This begins the process of adding a new product.
Select the option that matches your appliance:
- Matter AC
- Matter Window AC
- Matter Portable AC
- Matter Dehumidifier
- Follow the instructions in the app to place the appliance in pairing mode.
Pairing mode allows the TCL Home app to discover the appliance. - If instructed for your AC model, press the Display button on the remote six times.
The unit should beep twice and display CF, confirming that pairing mode is active. - When the app asks whether you heard the beeps, tap For Sure.
This confirms that the appliance is ready to continue. - Scan the Matter QR code included with the appliance.
The QR code securely identifies the specific appliance being added. - If Uncertified Accessory appears, confirm that you are adding the correct TCL appliance, and then select Add Anyway.
This message does not normally appear, but selecting this option allows setup to continue. - Enter your 2.4 Wi-Fi password when prompted and wait for the connection to finish.
Connecting may take several minutes, so keep the app open and remain near the appliance.
Configure the Appliance
After the appliance connects, select it in the TCL Home app. Available controls will vary by product and model.
For an air conditioner, available settings may include:
- Temperature
- Fan speed
- Operating mode
- Schedules
For a dehumidifier, available settings may include:
- Desired humidity
- Fan speed
- Operating mode
- Schedules
Test one of the available controls to confirm that setup was completed successfully.
Connect a Voice Assistant
- You may be able to link your TCL account with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.
- Follow the instructions in the TCL Home app or your voice assistant’s app to link the accounts. This allows supported appliance functions to be controlled with voice commands.
If the Appliance Will Not Connect
Check the Wi-Fi connection
- Make sure the 2.4 Wi-Fi network is working and the appliance is within range of the router. Restarting the router may resolve a temporary network issue.
Confirm pairing mode
- Check for CF or another pairing indicator described in the app. If the appliance is not in pairing mode, repeat the pairing steps to make it discoverable.
Update the TCL Home app
- Install any available TCL Home app updates. Updates may include connection improvements and compatibility fixes.
Restart the setup
- Close and reopen the app, restart the appliance, and try adding it again. This clears temporary pairing errors.
Check IPv6 support
- Matter uses IPv6 for communication between devices on the local network. Make sure IPv6 is supported and enabled for your router’s local network.
- Router settings vary by manufacturer. Refer to the router’s instructions or contact your internet provider or router manufacturer for help checking IPv6 settings.
Check the Matter setup code
- Use the Matter QR code or numeric setup code supplied with your specific appliance. Matter setup codes are unique and cannot normally be replaced with a generic QR code.
- If the label is missing or unreadable and no numeric setup code is available, contact TCL Support for assistance.
Setup Complete
Once connected, your TCL appliance should appear in the TCL Home app and respond to the available controls. Settings and supported features may vary depending on the appliance, model, app version, router, and smart-home platform.
