Why Won’t My TCL Subwoofer Turn On

Most TCL wireless subwoofers turn on automatically when connected to power and paired with their soundbar. If your subwoofer has no indicator light or is not producing sound, follow the steps below.

Power switches, indicator colors, and pairing procedures vary by model. Refer to your soundbar’s user manual for model-specific instructions.

1. Check the Power Connection

  • Make sure the supplied power cord or adapter is firmly connected to the subwoofer and a working wall outlet.
  • If the subwoofer has a Power switch, set it to On.
  • Temporarily plug the subwoofer directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip or extension cord.
  • Test another outlet that you know is working.

Why this matters: This helps determine whether the subwoofer is receiving power or whether the outlet or power accessory is causing the problem.

Many TCL subwoofers do not have a separate Power button. They power on automatically when connected to electricity and communicate wirelessly with the soundbar.

2. Check the Indicator Light

Look for an LED on the front or back of the subwoofer.

Depending on the model:

  • No light: The subwoofer may not be receiving power or may be in a low-power state.
  • Blinking light: The subwoofer may be in standby mode or searching for the soundbar.
  • Solid light: The subwoofer is usually powered on and paired.

Why this matters: The indicator helps identify whether the problem involves electrical power, standby mode, or the wireless connection.

Indicator colors and patterns vary. Check the user manual for the exact meaning of your subwoofer’s light.

3. Wake the Soundbar and Subwoofer

  • Turn on the soundbar.
  • Play a movie, song, or other content with noticeable bass.
  • Increase the soundbar’s Bass or Subwoofer level, if available.
  • Check whether the subwoofer’s indicator changes or sound begins playing.

Why this matters: Some subwoofers enter standby mode when the soundbar is off or no audio signal is detected. Playing audio should wake a properly powered and paired subwoofer.

4. Power-Cycle Both Devices

  • Turn off the soundbar.
  • Unplug both the soundbar and subwoofer.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect both devices to power.
  • Turn on the soundbar and wait for the subwoofer to connect automatically.

Why this matters: Restarting both devices clears temporary power and wireless communication errors. Most TCL soundbars and their included subwoofers pair automatically after restarting.

5. Re-Pair the Subwoofer

Allow the soundbar and subwoofer time to pair automatically before attempting manual pairing.

If they do not connect:

  • Place the subwoofer within approximately 10 feet of the soundbar.
  • Make sure both devices are powered on.
  • Press and hold the PAIR button on the back of the subwoofer until its indicator begins blinking.
  • Follow the pairing instructions for your specific soundbar model.
  • Wait for the subwoofer’s indicator to become solid.

Some models pair automatically after the PAIR button is pressed. Other models may require a button on the soundbar or remote. Consult the soundbar’s user manual for the correct procedure.

Why this matters: Re-pairing restores the wireless connection between the soundbar and subwoofer when they no longer recognize each other.

If pairing continues to fail, move Wi-Fi routers, cordless phones, microwave ovens, and other wireless equipment farther away during the pairing attempt.

Why this matters: Nearby wireless equipment or physical obstructions may interfere with communication between the soundbar and subwoofer.

6. Check the Power Cord and Ventilation

  • Inspect the power cord and connector for visible damage.
  • Make sure the subwoofer’s ventilation openings are not covered.
  • If the subwoofer feels unusually hot, unplug it and allow it to cool before trying again.

Do not use a replacement cord or power adapter unless it is approved for your exact TCL model.

Why this matters: A damaged or incorrect power supply may prevent operation and create a safety risk. Proper ventilation helps prevent heat-related shutdowns.

7. Confirm Subwoofer Compatibility

Make sure you are using the wireless subwoofer originally supplied with the soundbar.

Why this matters: TCL wireless subwoofers are designed to communicate with specific soundbar models. A subwoofer from another soundbar system may not pair, even if both products are made by TCL.

Still Not Powering On?

Contact TCL Support if:

  • The subwoofer has no indicator light when connected to a confirmed working outlet.
  • The power cord or adapter is damaged.
  • The indicator continues blinking and pairing does not complete.
  • The subwoofer becomes unusually hot.
  • The subwoofer still produces no sound after it is paired.

Have the soundbar’s model number, serial number, and a description of the subwoofer’s indicator-light behavior available when contacting support.

Checking the power source, restarting both devices, and restoring the wireless pairing resolves many subwoofer power and connection problems. If the subwoofer still does not respond, TCL Support can help determine the appropriate next step.
