How to Use Your TCL Sound Bar Remote

Your TCL sound bar remote lets you adjust the volume, choose an audio source, and customize your listening experience. Button names and available features vary by model, so check your sound bar’s user guide if a button or setting described here isn’t available.

Note: Some TCL sound bars can also be controlled through the TCL Home app.

Common Remote Buttons

Button What it does
Power Turns the sound bar on or off
Volume + / – Raises or lowers the sound bar’s volume
Mute Silences or restores the sound
Input / Source Switches between supported connections, such as HDMI ARC, Optical, AUX, Bluetooth, or USB
Sound Mode Cycles through available audio presets
Bass / Treble Adjusts low- or high-frequency sound on select models
Bluetooth Selects Bluetooth input or starts pairing, depending on the model

Adjust the Volume or Mute the Sound

  • Press Volume + to raise the volume.
  • Press Volume – to lower it.
  • Press Mute to silence the sound bar. Press Mute again to restore the sound.

Why this is important: The sound bar has its own volume control. If your TV remote controls the TV’s speakers or doesn’t change the sound bar volume, use the sound bar remote to adjust the level.

Switch the Sound Bar’s Input

  • Press Input or Source on the remote.
  • Press the button again, if needed, to move through the available inputs.
  • Stop when the sound bar is set to the connection used by your TV or other device, such as HDMI ARC, Optical, AUX, Bluetooth, or USB.

Why this is important: The sound bar needs to be set to the same input your device is connected to. If the selected input doesn’t match the connection, you may not hear sound.

The sound bar may confirm the selected input with an indicator light, a sound prompt, or a message on its display. Available inputs vary by model.

Choose a Sound Mode

  • Press Sound Mode on the remote.
  • Continue pressing it to cycle through the modes available on your model.
  • Listen to each option and choose the one that sounds best for your content and room.

Common modes may include:

  • Movie: May add more impact for films and TV shows.
  • Music: May provide a balanced sound for music.
  • News or Dialogue: May make voices easier to hear.
  • Night: Available on select models; may reduce the difference between loud and quiet sounds.

Why this is important: Sound modes adjust how audio is presented. Trying a different mode can help if dialogue is difficult to hear or the sound doesn’t suit what you’re watching.

Mode names and effects vary by model. Check your sound bar’s user guide for the available options.

Adjust Bass or Treble on Select Models

If your remote has Bass + / – or Treble + / – buttons:

  • Press Bass + / – to increase or reduce lower-frequency sounds.
  • Press Treble + / – to increase or reduce higher-frequency sounds.

Why this is important: These controls let you tailor the sound to your preference. For example, reducing bass may help if low sounds are too strong in your room.

Not all models have separate bass or treble controls.

Pair a Bluetooth Device

  • Press the Bluetooth button or use Input / Source to select Bluetooth.
  • If the sound bar is not already ready to pair, follow the instructions in its user guide to start pairing mode.
  • Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone, tablet, or computer.
  • Select your TCL sound bar from the list of available devices.

Why this is important: Selecting Bluetooth on the sound bar makes it available as an audio connection. Your device must also connect to the sound bar before it can stream audio.

Pairing steps and indicator lights vary by model. If the sound bar does not appear in your device’s Bluetooth list, check its user guide for the correct pairing procedure.

If the Remote Isn’t Responding

Check the batteries. Replace them if they are weak or depleted and make sure they are installed in the correct direction.
Why this is important: Low or incorrectly installed batteries can prevent the remote from sending commands

Point the remote toward the sound bar. Move any objects blocking the front of the sound bar and remote.
Why this is important: Some remotes use a signal that needs a clear path to the sound bar’s sensor.

Move closer and try again.
Why this is important: Testing from nearby helps determine whether distance or interference is affecting the remote’s signal.

Make sure the sound bar is on and set to the intended input.
Why this is important: A remote command may appear not to work if the sound bar is off or listening to a different source.

Try the sound bar’s buttons or the TCL Home app, if your model supports it.
Why this is important: This helps determine whether the issue is with the remote or with the sound bar itself.

Check your model’s user guide.
Why this is important: Remote layouts, pairing steps, and supported settings differ across sound bar models.

Tips for Caring for Your Remote
