Can I just use a Basic TV setup on a TCL Google TV?

TCL Google TVs give you the option to use Basic TV Mode during setup. This mode is ideal if you want a simpler experience without needing a Google Account or internet connection.

What You Can Do in Basic TV Mode

With Basic TV Mode, you can:

Finish setup quickly

Use the TV without a Google Account

Use the TV without an internet connection

Watch live TV through cable, satellite, TV tuner, or antenna using the TV app

Play media from external devices connected via HDMI or other inputs

Access a limited set of pre-installed apps

⚠️ Without internet access, your TV won’t receive important security or software updates.

What You Can’t Do in Basic TV Mode

Basic TV Mode has limited functionality. You won’t be able to:

Sign in to or use your Google Account

Access your Google Play Library

Download or install apps

Use Google Assistant to search or control your TV

Cast content from phones, tablets, or other devices

Switching from Basic TV to Full Google TV

If you decide later that you’d like the full Google TV experience, you can easily switch:

From the Home screen, scroll to the Google TV banner

Select Set Up Google TV

Follow the on-screen prompts using your remote or the Google Home app

Tip: If you’ve already completed the full Google TV setup, you cannot switch back to Basic TV Mode. You’ll need to factory reset the TV to start over.

After Factory Reset

If you choose to reset your TCL Google TV:

You’ll need to re-enter saved Wi-Fi passwords

You’ll need to reinstall any apps

You'll go through setup again, where you can choose Basic TV Mode or Google TV Mode
